Walking around downtown Oakland last night I found myself thinking, as I often do, “where are all the people?”

There were some people out and about, to be sure. Just not very many. And everything closes early.

I wish everyone could somehow be made to understand how much more fun, safe, vibrant, and affordable our cities would be if we simply let them grow.
